Young Kim (Director)
Young has over fifteen years of experience in higher education policy research. He co-founded 401kid, Inc., a New York company that rates college savings plans. He was also at the National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education, a think tank, and American Council on Education, the umbrella group for colleges and universities, as an analyst. Young holds a B.A. from St. Lawrence and an M.PHIL. from Oxford and lives in Glover Park with his wife and two children.
Selma Ramic (Co-Director)
Selma has been a linguist for U.S. government agencies and has also worked abroad in Afghanistan working with the U.S. military. She now resides in northeast DC with her daughter, spouse, and dog. Selma obtained her B.A. from York College of Pennsylvania and her M.A. from Georgetown University.
Brittany Clark (Facilitator)
Brittany was the first facilitator to join our summer cooperative in 2016. A graduate of Howard University, Brittany is a middle school teacher during the school year. Her passion is to bring theater and arts to children who live in urban settings. She has performed in several award-winning theater productions as well. When she is not in the classroom, she is working on theater productions.
Steve Leroy (Music instructor)
Steve is a Certification Level 1 Music Together Teacher and has been teaching Music Together classes in and around Washington, DC since 2013. He also gives private lessons to children and adults in guitar, ukulele, bass, songwriting and music theory. Steve has a B.S. in languages from Georgetown University and lives on Capitol Hill with his wife and three children, Eliza (6), Ben (4), and Mimi (2).
Kaitlin Morais (Facilitator)
Kaitlin has been a pre-kindergarten teacher at Annunciation Catholic School during the past three years. She was also a teaching assistant at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. Currently, in addition to teaching, she also directs Annunciation’s after school program. A Washingtonian, Kaitlin received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Mary University in sociology and education.
Leila Alfaheid (Facilitator)
Leila started working with young children at her mother’s daycare center initially on a part-time basis and later as a full-time staff. Leila received her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. She was a teaching assistant at Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School while she studied at Catholic Univerity. Leila is currently enrolled at George Washington University for a master’s degree in international education.
Kahlil Kuykendall (Children’s yoga instructor)
Kahlil is a certified Yoga for Youth, Yoga Education and Radiant Child children’s yoga teacher and workshop facilitator. She is also certified in Kundalini and Hatha yoga. Kahlil is a part-time faculty at George Washington University as an instructor in health and wellness. Kahlil obtain her master’s degree from Howard University in economics and international development.
Jennifer Ray (Children’s yoga instructor)
Jennifer is a certified children’s yoga instructor. She has over ten years of experience working with children and families in the mental health field. She began incorporating yoga during her therapy sessions and observed how her clients excelled with their treatment. Jennifer holds an MA in counseling from Trinity University.
